![]() Tehillah Hebrew School
We provide dynamic and progressive educational programs for children from first grade through middle school. Students explore their Jewish identity, establish Hebrew language skills, prepare for their bar/bat mitzvah, and nourish their spiritual growth. We are distinguished by the way we integrate our curriculum with family and community activities, and the high degree of parental involvement in the educational process. We offer an engaging and student centered approach to learning with a uniquely strong emphasis on social action. Our parent committee works actively to support our faculty, who excel in creative, "out of the box" education. For a Hebrew School application, please click here: Hebrew School Registration 2010-2011. The Tehillah Hebrew School Program is comprised of a Limud (learning) Component and a Hebrew Component. School begins with a 15 minute Circle Time at which all grades gather for an opening session focusing on singing, tefillah (prayer), storytelling, and holiday teachings. Classroom time is split between the Limud Component of curriculum and Hebrew study. Hebrew is taught in comfort groups - so as to address individual learning styles and varying competency levels. The THS Limud Curriculum takes a creative thematic approach to each grade. Within each curriculum is built the following components: LIMUD: A Values-Based Curriculum Jewish history, scholarship, tradition and values are addressed at each grade level through the lens of an over-arching curricular theme that is tailored to each grade. A Year Project: A cumulative educational project that allows the curriculum to build creatively throughout the year and culminates with a class presentation or personalized presentations. By requiring a cumulative approach this project provides a strong, dynamic connection to the year of study and the experience of creative achievement by the year's end. Co-leader Shabbat: Shabbat services are a central part of the Tehillah Hebrew School experience. Each class will be working closely with their teacher and the Rabbi to explore Shabbat in this uniquely pro-active way. By taking on some of the 'Rabbinic responsibility' of co-leading a service, our children learn by dugma, example. This first -hand experience of youth leadership leads to their stronger sense of ownership and connection. In these Torah Takeout: In addition to weekly Hebrew exercises and review, students and their families are sent a weekly creative lesson or conversation for the 'dinner table' inspired by the weekly Torah portion. Torah Takeout is how we bring Tehillah Hebrew School into the home, inviting our families to engage in Jewish learning together. We encourage our families to make Torah Takeout a weekly Shabbat activity. Tikkun Olam/Tehillah Chavurah Partner: |
