Education

One of the strongest values that we have as Jews is our belief that a good dynamic education has the power to create strong caring communities. Sadly, after two years of Covid, when the quality of public education was less than stellar in every way, the New York public school system is faced with $469 million of cuts. Our system needs to recover and it needs the financial support to do so. This week we are not asking for your financial support, rather we are asking you to raise your voice on behalf of the next generation.

Per Fund Our Schools (UFT), an Aug. 1 fiscal year-end analysis by City Comptroller Brad Lander shows the city has the funds to fully reverse these cuts. The majority of the City Council, including our Councilmember, is now calling upon the mayor to reverse the cuts. We must add our voices.

Our schools are being hit especially hard, with both P.S. 24 and P.S. 81 losing nearly a million dollars each this year. To see how much money our schools are losing, and for more information, go to https://www.uft.org/get-involved/uft-campaigns/fund-our-schools.
