Friendly Fridge
Since its founding during the pandemic in 2020, the Friendly Fridge has become a major resource for those experiencing food insecurity. Under the leadership of Sara Allen and Selma Raven, they have continued to grow. Now, they need help to get to the next level, whether that be a storage container or a storefront. The Van Cortlandt Track Club is organizing a run to start the campaign. Sign up below!
Via the Friendly Fridge:
- Did you know that a single head of lettuce can take up to 25 years to decompose in a landfill, giving off harmful methane gas the whole time? Crazy, right?
- At the same time, a new report from the state department of health found that nearly 40% of Bronx adults self-reported navigating food and/or nutritional insecurity.
- The Friendly Fridge BX redirected over 58,000 lbs in January alone and we are working hard to increase that number over the next year. We need your help!
- Get a jump start on your Spring training and join us for the first inaugural Lettuce Run 5k hosted by the Van Cortlandt Track Club!
This is a family-friendly event with different options.
