Hearts and Homes
Hearts and Homes
We are told in this week’s Torah portion to stop and listen. If we do that, what do we hear?
The cry of those in need.
As we are watching the events in Afghanistan unfold, it has become clear that there are thousands of people that have worked with the US government over the past twenty years trying to evacuate to safety. The key to anybody being granted permission to enter the United States is obtaining an SIV (special immigrant visa). There is an opportunity to volunteer and help people completing their SIV applications. Hearts and Homes for Refugees is running a program assisting Afghani SIV applicants with tracking down their supervisors and others that can verify their service and provide recommendations. These are pieces necessary to complete their applications. It’s all internet research and contacting people.
Hearts and Homes is also expecting to resettle 4 SIV families in the very near future in Westchester. They may need volunteers. If you would like to get involved, please reach out to the contacts on their WEBSITE. If you would like to hear more before reaching out to Hearts and Homes, feel free to reach out to Irina Kimelfeld at ikimelfeld@gmail.com.
