This weekend, we are presented with two opportunities to think about looking beyond boundaries -- Juneteenth and Pride Shabbat. We are celebrating Pride Shabbat tonight.
We are fortunate to live in an area that is in the process of delving more deeply into our history as a nation built with slavery. Visit the Van Cortlandt Park Alliance which held a ceremony to consecrate the African Burial Ground.
To learn more about Juneteenth, watch the video below with former teacher and lifelong activist Opal Lee, who, In 2016 at the age of 89, walked from Fort Worth, Texas to Washington, D.C., in an effort to get Juneteenth recognized as a national holiday.
